Pets & Animal Rescue In Cumbria, UK We are always thrilled and amazed by the enthusiasm our customers have for pets. Many times we receive questions on dogs, cats and even goats. In recognition of this passion for animals we would like to say a little about Alfred Wainwright who shared these thoughts and what he did to help the less fortunate animals in Cumbria. The animal rescue site he was associated with is based at Kapellan, Grayrigg, just outside Kendal in the Lake District. It began in 1971 in response to the number of local pets having to be destroyed as strays. Alfred Wainwright became Chairman in 1972 and his wife, Betty, was appointed treasurer. Charitable status was recognised in 1974 and thanks to substantial funding from Alfred Wainwright, the first premises were opened in 1984. The shelter takes cats and dogs from across Cumbria, the majority being unclaimed strays. Link to the Wainwright society page on Kapellan http://www.wainwright.org.uk/article/kapellan.html |
