Throughout the 1960s and 70s artificial grass manufacture was
refined and offered as a viable sports playing surface. Sports
stadia in the USA were amongst the first to promote this kind of
use and before long it was being used for both outdoor and indoor
sports. International tournaments began warming to the idea - the
McGill University (Canada) hosted the first ever international
hockey tournament played on artificial grass in 1975. Further refinements
and improvements of both manufacturing and installation techniques
within the artificial grass industry in the 1990s led to many sports
associations and federations recognising and approving artificial
grass as an accepted playing surface for many sports – and
at international level. Included amongst these are the International
Hockey Federation, the Olympic Games and FIFA (for World Cup qualifying
matches).
